MY STORY
Vicki Reid Smith is a self-taught visual artist based in Scottsdale, Arizona. Vicki started in interior design and many of her acrylic and archival ink pieces demonstrate playful uses of symmetry and architectural influences. Her pieces start with modern, bright, intense colors and are then washed to tone the overall pallet, eliciting the feel of older well-loved paintings. The blend of old and new makes her pieces feel both familiar and exciting.
Throughout her life she’s had a keen interest in art, architecture and design and was influenced at an early age by artist Oscar Howe and other Native American painters and is an avid collector of primarily vintage Southwest art and artifacts. Since moving to Arizona she has been experimenting in several mediums and producing a unique series of works including sugar skulls, religious pieces, landscapes and portraits currently in private collections. She continues to pursue art education and is further exploring new mediums including oil, sculpture and welding.
Vicki Reid Smith was raised in South Dakota, educated at Black Hills State College, and raised her two wonderful children in Michigan where she is the founding partner and owner of a specialty mechanical contracting business in Detroit. She and her husband have been in the Valley of the Sun since 2016.
“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.”
